What Happens During a Holistic Health Consultation?

If you’ve never had a holistic health consultation before, you may be wondering what you’re actually signing up for.
Do we talk about food?
Do you need lab work?
Are you going to leave with 27 supplements?
Do you have to know which wellness test or service you need before you arrive?
The answer to that last one is especially important:
No.
At Fire & Ice Holistic Health in Matthews, NC, you do not need to diagnose yourself before making an appointment.
That’s part of the reason we have the consultation.
My approach is centered around looking at the whole picture, identifying patterns and figuring out which foundational areas make the most sense to address first.
We Start With Your Story
Before any wellness tool or assessment is considered, I want to understand you.
We may talk about:
what you’re currently experiencing
when you first noticed changes
digestion and bowel habits
eating patterns
hydration
sleep
energy
stress
movement
medications and supplements
previous health history
what you’ve already tried
what has or hasn’t helped
what you actually want to accomplish
Sometimes the timeline itself begins revealing useful patterns.
And sometimes people realize during that conversation that several things they thought were completely unrelated actually started around the same time.
That context matters.
Looking Beyond One Symptom
One of the biggest differences between my approach and a symptom-by-symptom model is that I’m interested in relationships between patterns.
For example, someone may initially come in because they’re concerned about digestion.
But as we talk, we may also notice patterns involving:
inconsistent eating
inadequate hydration
chronic stress
poor sleep
irregular bowel movements
a complicated supplement routine
very little food variety
That doesn’t automatically tell us why someone has a particular symptom.
But it does give us several foundational areas worth looking at.
Instead of immediately trying to find one magic answer, we begin asking:
What keeps showing up across the whole picture?
My Approach: Triangulating Wellness Patterns
I don’t like building an entire wellness plan around one scan, one observation or one assessment.
Instead, I use a triangulation approach.
That means comparing information from multiple sources and looking for areas where several pieces of information appear to overlap.
Depending on the person, that may include:
detailed symptom and wellness history
nutrition and lifestyle review
digestion and elimination patterns
hydration
sleep and stress
supplement review
existing laboratory results
RBTI
iridology
muscle response testing
AO Scan biofeedback
face, tongue and nail observations
other traditional holistic wellness tools and traditional naturopathy when appropriate
These tools are not used to diagnose disease, and complementary assessments such as iridology, muscle testing, RBTI and biofeedback should not be treated as replacements for validated medical testing.
I use them as additional wellness information that can be considered alongside your history and lifestyle.
If something requires medical evaluation, I may recommend that you follow up with an appropriately licensed healthcare provider.
Foundations First
This is probably one of the most important things to understand about working with me.
I don’t believe everyone needs to begin with the most complicated protocol possible.
Sometimes the smartest place to start is much less glamorous.
Your first recommendations might involve things like:
improving protein intake
eating more consistently
increasing food variety
supporting hydration
improving digestion
working toward regular bowel movements
simplifying an excessive supplement routine
improving sleep habits
walking more
addressing stress patterns
practicing nervous system regulation
Those things sound basic.
They’re also foundational.
If the basics are a mess, adding increasingly complicated wellness protocols may simply create more overwhelm.
Do I Need Lab Work Before My Appointment?
Usually, no.
If you already have recent laboratory results, you are welcome to bring them.
They can sometimes provide useful context and may also show something that needs to be discussed with your physician.
But you do not need to order a giant panel of testing before your first holistic health consultation.
I would rather understand what is happening first and determine whether additional information would actually be useful.
Testing should answer a question.
Not simply create a larger pile of numbers.
Will You Recommend Supplements?
Maybe.
But a supplement cabinet is not a substitute for a wellness plan.
If supplements make sense, we can discuss them.
We may also talk about food sources of nutrients, lifestyle changes, hydration, meal structure or other foundational strategies.
And if you’re already taking a long list of supplements, sometimes our job is actually to determine whether everything still has a clear purpose.
More is not automatically better.
What About AO Scan, Iridology, RBTI or Muscle Testing?
People sometimes come to Fire & Ice because they’ve heard about one particular modality.
You absolutely can ask about it.
But you do not need to decide:
“I need an AO Scan.”
or
“I need iridology.”
or
“I need RBTI.”
before your appointment.
Those are tools, not the entire service.
I’m much more interested in figuring out what information would actually be useful for you.
Sometimes a particular complementary assessment fits into the consultation.
Sometimes it doesn’t.
The consultation is the bigger picture.
What Happens After We Gather the Information?
We prioritize.
That matters because changing everything at once is usually a terrible way to create sustainable change.
Instead of sending you home thinking:
“Apparently my entire existence needs to be rebuilt by Monday,”
we determine what makes the most sense to focus on first.
Your plan may include:
Nutrition
Changes in food quality, variety, meal structure or nutrient intake.
Hydration
Looking at how much you drink and whether your current habits make sense for you.
Digestive Wellness
Supporting basic digestive habits and identifying patterns that may deserve additional attention.
Stress & Nervous System Regulation
Looking at how chronic stress may be influencing your routines and incorporating practical regulation strategies when appropriate.
Sleep & Recovery
Because trying to build wellness on four hours of sleep is an uphill battle.
Movement
Often simple, sustainable movement rather than an extreme exercise plan.
Supplements
When appropriate and within the context of the larger plan.
You Are Not Expected to Change Everything Overnight
This part is important.
A wellness plan only matters if you can actually live with it.
I’m much more interested in creating reasonable next steps than giving someone a beautiful six-page protocol that gets abandoned three days later.
We can build.
We can reassess.
We can change direction when something isn’t working.
That is what individualized care is supposed to look like.
What Should You Bring to Your First Holistic Health Consultation?
If you have them, it can be helpful to bring:
your current medication list
your supplement list
recent lab results
a general idea of what you eat in a typical day
questions you want answered
notes about symptoms or patterns you’ve noticed
But please don’t delay scheduling because you don’t have everything organized.
You can show up with what you know.
We’ll start there.
Can Holistic Health Support Be Used Alongside Medical Care?
Yes.
This does not have to be an either/or situation.
Holistic wellness support can exist alongside conventional healthcare.
I do not diagnose disease or replace your physician, and I will encourage appropriate medical evaluation when something falls outside my scope.
My role is to help you look more closely at the nutrition, lifestyle and wellness patterns surrounding the bigger picture.
Who Is a Holistic Health Consultation For?
A consultation may be a good fit if:
you want to take a more proactive approach to your wellness
you feel overwhelmed by conflicting wellness advice
you’ve accumulated supplements without a clear plan
you want someone to look at your habits and history as a whole
you’re interested in traditional naturopathic wellness
you want help deciding where to begin
you’re looking for personalized education rather than another generic wellness checklist
And perhaps most importantly:
You do not need to know exactly what you need before you come in.
That’s what we figure out together.

FAQs
How long is a holistic health consultation?
Appointment length depends on the service you select. Your first visit allows additional time to discuss your history, goals, current routines and relevant wellness patterns.
Do I need a diagnosis before scheduling?
No. Holistic wellness consultations do not provide medical diagnoses, and you do not need to know exactly what is causing your concerns before scheduling.
Can I bring laboratory results?
Yes. Existing lab results can provide helpful context, although abnormal findings and medical interpretation should also be discussed with the appropriate licensed healthcare provider.
Is AO Scan the same as medical testing?
No. AO Scan is a biofeedback-based wellness tool and should not be considered medical imaging, laboratory testing or a diagnostic procedure.
Do I have to purchase supplements?
No. Recommendations may involve nutrition, lifestyle, hydration, stress management, sleep, movement or other foundational strategies. Supplements are only one possible part of a wellness plan.
